Coach Kwesi Appiah will wait for reports on a further injury assessment of Jerry Akamino before taking a decision on whether to take him along to the 2014 World Cup or not.

The Turkish-based defender was stretched off on the stroke of full time in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in an international friendly played on Saturday.

Akaminko appears to have twisted his ankle after landing awkwardly from an aerial challenge.

The 26-year-old hard defender is not noted for staying down after brutal challenges – igniting fears his injury could be serious as he was stretched off the pitch.

But the Black Stars trainer will wait to have further information about the severity of his defender’s injury before naming his final 23-man squad expected by Sunday morning.

“We are uncertain about the injury [to Jerry Akaminko] and we need further tests to determine whether he will make the squad or not,” Kwesi Appiah said after the game in Rotterdam.

It will be a major blow for the Ekiserhispor defender if he is unable to make Ghana’s final squad for the 2014 World Cup – his first ever campaign at the world stage.

Akaminko has worked hard all-season-long to earn a return to the Black Stars having been overlooked for longer period after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

He is considered one of the sure bets to make the Black Stars’ final squad for June’s tournament in Brazil prior to sustaining the injury in the defeat to the Netherlands on Saturday.
