Al Qadsia fans want Rashid Sumaila to switch nationality to Kuwait

Ghana could be dealt a huge blow if the new FIFA regulations on nationality switch for players are finally implemented as Al Qadsia fans are on the neck of Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila to naturalize for Kuwait.

The hardworking defender who has been in stupendous form for the Knights of the East has weaved his way into the hearts of the fans who are calling for him to switch nationality.

But the scenario will not be easy even if the Ghana defender wish to take that decision.

Sumaila has already played for the Black Stars of Ghana and was even part of the squad that represented the West African nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The former Asante Kotoko and Mamelodi Sundowns defender has been in magnificent form for Al Qadsia, guiding them to win the Kuwait Viva League two season ago after he led them to the FA Cup title the previous year.

Sumaila’s rise in form saw him guide Al Gharafa to second spot in the Qatari League where he joined after five matches and was named the club’s best defender after the season, a title he won with Al Qadsia previously.

Despite his magnificent performance, the industrious defender has seen little for the Black Stars of Ghana, earning intermittent call ups.

But Kuwaiti football fans believe Sumaila must naturalise for them since he is getting little recognition in his country of birth.

Following Al Qadsia’s win over the weekend, supporters of the club and Kuwaiti football enthusiasts took to social media to call on the player to switch nationality.

Sumaila who is yet to make his 10th appearance for Ghana can switch nationality is the new FIFA regulation that will allow players to switch nationality when they have not played more than 40% of the country’s matches.
