Doha: Jugurtha Hamroun fired home a last gasp winner to help Al Sadd beat Al Rayyan 2-1 on Friday and seal their 16th Emir Cup crown.

Al Rayyan had taken the lead through captain Rodrigo Tabata’s 49th minute strike, before Hassan Al Haydous scored from the spot to draw Al Sadd level seven minutes later.

Having won the Qatar Cup last month, Al Sadd’s efforts to were to be eventually rewarded when Hamroun converted Xavi’s injury time pass to ensure the victory.

The match was played at the refurbished Khalifa International Stadium - the first proposed host venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and which, after redevelopment, is ready more than five years ahead of the start of the tournament.
