Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew capped a fine campaign this term by winning Olympique Marseille's player of the season gong on Thursday.

The 21-year-old collected the individual award from his father Abedi Pele after he polled  51% of the votes cast by fellow players to beat goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and Mattheu Valbuena to the award.

Andre's startling performance this season has been rewarded with the top individual club award at the French giant and he is thrilled with his display.

"I am very happy to have won a trophy with OM especially since the club as produced many young players over the years, such as Nasri or Bocaly, but these players won nothing with the club."

"Jordan was champion of France last year but he played few matches. I really wanted to win something with my club, having played in a lot of matches. But I would have preferred winning the league title!"

The young midfilder exploded onto the scene in South Africa with Ghana, making the quarter-finals of the competition.

In the Ligue 2 last season, he has actively participated in the promotion campaign of Arles-Avignon in the midfield.

This season, it's higher up the pitch on the left flank of the Olympian attack that the young Ghanaian blazed his trail.

In the starting line-up from the beginning of the season, he scored his first goal during Week 2 away to Valenciennes, and then his first double haul against his former club in Week 6 and a hat-trick, his first in the L1, against Nice.

Accompanied by the confidence of Didier Deschamps, he racked up matches in the starting line-up and goals in the league and Coupe de la Ligue.

With one match left to be played, he has 11 goals in the Ligue 1 and 2 in the Coupe de la Ligue.

It was also this season, that he shone with OM in the Champions League.

At 20 years of age (he had not yet celebrated his 21st birthday at the beginning of the competition), he did not tremble when they walked out on the pitch to the traditional music of the most prestigious competitions in Europe.

Elected nine times "Olympian of the Match" but also "Olympian of the Month" in March and April, André Ayew has thus been awarded the title of best player of the season.''We have to sit with John’s former club Lyon for a better deal for both parties, for now, we are just considering some factors before taking the next plan of action.''
