Andre Ayew makes history as Arles are promoted

Ghana midfielder Andre Dede Ayew capped a fine season on Friday night when his side Arles Avignon gained promotion to the French Ligue 1 for the first time in the history of the small club.

The 20-year-old lasted the entire duration and weaved his magic in their precious 1-0 win over Clermont Foot at home on the final match day to finish third on the log sheet.

Dede, on loan from Marseille, played a pivotal role in the club's qualification by scoring four goals in the campaign.

Arles booked the last promotional ticket and will join Caen and Stade Brestois in the Ligue 1 next season.

But it is unlikely the son of Africa football legend Abedi Pele will stay with the club next as he is being chased by some stellar European clubs.

The 20-year-old, named in Ghana's provisional 30-man World Cup squad, has hit a rich vein of form and is tipped to make the 23-man squad.
