Arsenal powerful midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has finally opted to play for Ghana ahead of England after meeting the Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi in London on Monday night, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Frimpong signed the documents to enable him complete his nationality switch after Nyantakyi moved to convince him before the Ghana-Brazil friendly on Monday after earlier talks.

Frimpong chose the Black Stars over England after a recent tussle between the two countries over the international future of the player.

His decision to sign the nationality switch document has ended the tussle with Ghana emerging as the winner.

"It is true that we have met Frimpong and he has signed the document to enable him complete his nationality switch to play for Ghana," Nyantakyi told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Ghana will now have to compile the rest of the documents showing Frimpong's links with Ghana as well as a letter from the England FA to confirm that he has not played for the England senior national team.

Apart from Nyantakyi's efforts, family members of Frimpong also piled pressure on the player who had earlier revealed his ambition of playing for his country of his parents.

England and Ghana were both attempting to secure the playing future of Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong, who has burst on to the scene this season.

The central midfielder, who hails from Ghana, is a graduate of Arsenal's academy and has been thrust into the side following an injury to Jack Wilshere and the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Frimpong has represented England at under-16 and 17 level, while he has also been called up to the under-19 team in the past.

He was recently called up to the England U21 but he turned down the invite claiming he is injured which sparked the hopes that he will play for Ghana.

Frimpong was one of Arsenal's few bright sparks against Liverpool last weekend until a mistimed lunge saw him given his marching orders for a second booking.

He came back strongly against Udinese in the Champions League on Wednesday night (August 24th) before being removed at half time as manager Arsene Wenger sought to bring on an attacking option.
