Asamoah Gyan to lead Ghana attack for South Korea friendly

Published on: 05 June 2011

Striker Asamoah Gyan will return to lead Ghana’s attack when they play South Korea in a friendly on Tuesday.

The Sunderland attacker was not in action when the Black Stars played Congo in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday.

The influential player was serving a suspension for a red card he received during last year’s qualifier against Sudan.

But with the game against South Africa non-competitive, Ghana are free to use the striker for the match.

With Prince Tagoe unavailable for the game in Seoul, Gyan will play as the lead attacker as coach Goran Stevanovic continues to mould his squad.

Dominic Adiyiah will also fancy his chances of playing from the right of the attack while Berekum Chelsea striker Emmanuel Clottey might also get his chance in the game.

The Black Stars sealed a 3-1 win at the Seoul World Cup stadium, the last time both sides met, back in 2006 in another friendly.

Asamoah Gyan, who hit a brace and Michael Essien were the goal-scorers on the day.
