Bechem Utd put Tema Youth to the sword

Published on: 07 April 2012

Relegation-threatened Bechem United recorded their first Ghana Premier League win in five months by edging Tema Youth 2-1 at home on Saturday.

Promising starlet Richard Addae scored in the opening quarter of an hour in either halves to help Bechem United record their first win in 13 games.

Bechem were without a win since their 2-0 victory AshGold in November last year.

And indeed this was a tie that meant a lot for Bechem regarding their status in the 22 week-old league.

The visitors showed very little seriousness to the game.

Bechem expressed superior dominance from defence to attack reducing Youth to a mere side.

The last time Youth visited the Brong Ahafo region, they returned with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of relegation-bound Berekum Arsenal.

And the story appeared to have a no different ending per their performance in the first department.

Attacker Richard Addae gave the few over 200 home spectators something to cheer about when he controlled a Peter Essien pass before finishing off in style in the 15th minute.

Youth put in little effort to fight for the equaliser as they went to sleep.

Bechem had the chance to increase the tally but Peter Essien, Theophilus Apoh and Richard Addae all wasted glorious opportunities.

Opening minutes of the second half brought some kind of fire in Youth's play as they snatched the equaliser eight minutes into the half.

Abel Hammond finished off a nice combination play from the Youth midfield to cancel out the lead.

Tema Youth had no answers to a powerful effort from Richard Addae six minutes after the equaliser.

The promising attacker sent a powerful half volley to the top right corner to register his eighth goal of the season.

None of the sides were able to make any impact before referee Samuel Sukah ended the game.
