Black Satellites Captain Issahaku Konda hopeful of qualifying for AFCON U-20 in Niger

Black Satellites Captain Issahaku Konda is confident of leading his side to Niger 2019, despite the 0-0 draw with Algeria on Friday in the first leg of the Africa Youth Championship qualifiers.

The national under-20 team dominated the game against the Algerians, created several chances but failed to score in Algiers.

Meanwhile, the team will be back to host their opponents in Ghana in a fortnight time and Issahaku Konda, who is leading the side after being part of the team that failed to qualify two years ago wants to vindicate himself this time around.

“This for me is very personal because I was part of the squad that failed to qualify in 2016. We were all very disheartened because we needed just one goal to sail through but unfortunately we couldn’t make it," he said.

“Destiny has handed me another chance and also in the role to lead the team as captain. I pray we return to the u-20 AFCON under my captaincy”, he added.

“I am very hopeful that we are going to qualify this time round. The players have been in camp for some time now and the cohesion is growing steadily. We want to take one match at a time and for now, it’s the Algerians that stand in our way and we have to scale over it and move on to the next stage."

Ghana failed to qualify for the competition two years ago after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Senegal.
