Broke RTU to withdraw from MTN FA Cup

Real Tamale United (RTU) are threatening to pull out from this season's MTN FA Cup because of financial problems.

Players have not been paid for close to five months which has resulted in some key players like Hassan Mohammed and Daniel Coleman leaving the club.

The Pride of the North were relegated from the top-flight last season and have struggled to recruit players for the second-tier.

RTU were drawn to play either Juventus or Yeji Stars in the preliminary round of the competition which begins on 13 December.

But the Tamale-based club say they do not have the financial capability to compete in the knock-out competition.

"We are facing dire financial difficulties at the moment and as we speak, we have not paid salaries for four to five months," RTU Chief Executive Abu Nurudeen told Accra-based Happy FM.

"We have problems with our sponsors Wienco and board members. If by Friday there is no improvement, then we will boycott the tournament."
