Caf to unveil Player of the Year list in Accra today

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) will unveil a shortlist for the 2011 African Footballer of the Year Award in Accra on Wednesday.

Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi will be joined by Caf senior officials to reveal the five-man shortlist.

The event will be held at the Alisa Hotel with sponsors of the annual event Glo also in attendance.

The list will be cut to three finalists by Caf in December before the winner in named in Accra later that month.

Ghanaians expected that three of their players Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew or Kevin Prince Boateng are named for the top award.

But there are other hot contenders like Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast and his compatriot Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon and Papiss Demba Cisse of Senegal.

Coaches and captains of Africa's 53 national teams vote for the award.
