Crowning moment awaits Berekum Chelsea as league returns

Published on: 18 May 2011

Berekum Chelsea are just three points away from a historic debut league title as the Glo Premier League heads into the business end with four games to go.

With 12 points left to play for in four games, the Berekum side hold an 11-point lead ahead of second placed Asante Kotoko as a win on Wednesday in their match-day-27 fixture would seal for them the title.

A draw could possibly hand Chelsea the title depending on the result in top liner involving Kotoko and AshantiGold, as both sides are level on points with the Miners in third place.

Chelsea would need to defeat Real Tamale United at the Golden City Park to hand them the spoils of a league success. But the leaders are expected to face stiff competition as RTU try to lift themselves above the relegation zone.

Kotoko's clash with AshantiGold at the Baba Yara Stadium is the big fixture in midweek with both sides level on points and playing for the second place which automatically hands them a continental slot.

A win for either side and a Chelsea draw or defeat could yet again delay the leaders' planned coronation.

Having returned the league trophy won last season, Aduana Stars are aware that their hopes of a successful defence has failed as they battle to earn a top-four spot.

Last season's champions would be at home to Medeama, one of the league's emerging forces.

New Edubiase could possibly improve their top-four chances when they play Hearts of Oak at the Gyemfis Park.

The Phobians have had a poor season by their standards and defeat could push them closer to the relegation zone yet again.

Liberty Professionals could compound Mighty Jets' league struggles when both sides meet at the Carl Reindorf Park.

Jets are struggling to avoid the drop on their maiden season and must pull a win to improve their chances of remaining in the elite competition next season.

Wa All Stars have the chance to move up the from mid-table with a home game against Heart of Lions, who have also seen their stock plummet in the second round of the league.

At the Robert Mensah Stadium, Ebusua Dwarfs will host Berekum Arsenals. The Gunners are 12th on the table and three points above the relegation zone.

King Faisal could plunge back into the relegation zone or remain ever closer to it if they fail to win against bottom side, B.A. Stars at the Coronation Park.

For B.A Stars, a return to the Division One League is already confirmed as they have amassed 19 points, a situation which Faisal would seek to prevent when both sides meet.
