John Barnes says the GFA must appoint a competent coach for the Black Stars

Liverpool legend John Barnes says the Ghana Football Association must appoint a competent coach as the first step of reviving the Black Stars following their shambolic showing at the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars coaching position became vacant three weeks ago when coach Kwesi Appiah was shown the door which has resulted in several coaches applying to take over the position.

Avram Grant, Giovanni Trapattoni, Patrick Kluivert, Michel Pont and Bernd Schuster are among the 28 coaches submit their resumes for the considered for the post.

Barnes says the competent coach must be appointed by the GFA to help the Black Stars regain their lost lustre following their unimpressive showing at the World Cup.

“The Ghana Football Association should appoint a competent coach to lead the team for future assignments. If that is done, it will develop and enhance more talents in the country,” Barnes said.

Barnes, who is a respected pundit on SuperSport, was in Ghana this week to attend the sports financing conference organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
