Ghana football is mourning the death of ex-Football Association chairman Major D.O. Asiamah.

Asiamah, 74, died at the 37 Military hospital in Accra on Wednesday after a protracted illness.

Colleagues on Thursday morning paid glowing tribute to the ex-military officer, who was the driving force behind Ghana's 1978 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

His close friend, Eastern Regional FA candidate and owner of Maxbees FC Nana Kwadwo Budu II said: ''It is a great loss to the country.''

Asiamah was the president of the Ghana federation between 1977-1979.
