Former Ghana Vice-president Alhaji Aliu Mahama fears the recent unrest at Real Tamale United could plunge the club from top flight.
RTU have been in the news for the wrong reasons this season after attempts by some irate fans to beat up reinstated head coach Turk Telat Uzum at the team's training grounds on Tuesday.
There are reports of a collision of the Board and the management team as to who should be allowed to handle the team technically.
While the management team of the club prefers ex-international Mohammed Gargo, the Board are also keen to ensure the 47-year-old Uzum, told to step aside in November, is re-called.
They are currently involved in the relegation dog-fight for the third consecutive season and Vice-president Aliu Mahama wants to current off-the-pitch problems to end.
''What is happening at the club is very worrying and if we are not careful and the club is relegated from the top flight league, the consequences for football in the North and the country in general will be huge,'' he said.
''Look at the big infrastructure and if the club which is the only surviving one in the Northern region is not available, what will become of the Tamale stadium.''
