Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona have moved to sign Ghana midfielder Bennard Kumordzi from Belgian side KRC Genk, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The Verona-based side have advanced talks with Genk and a deal is expected to be in place by next week.

Chievo manager Eugenio Corini has set new standards at the club for next season and wants to bring in quality players to restore the club back to it's glory period.

Corini has been following the exploits the 28-year-old who enjoyed a fine season in the Belgian Pro League helping Genk to secure a Europa League ticket for next season.

A return to France for the midfielder is also on the cards as newly-promoted Ligue 1 sides Caen and Metz are also interested in signing him.

But Chievo have taken the lead and the lanky midfielder could head to the Italian Serie A for a new challenge.

Kumordzi joined Genk in 2012 from French side Dijon and steered them to triumph in the Belgian Cup on his first season.

Last season, he contributed 5 goals in 34 league games.
