Frimpong confirms decision to play for Ghana

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has confirmed that he has turned his back on England to play for his country of birth Ghana.

Frimpong was born in the Ghana capital of Accra but moved to north London at the age of 14 and has gone on to represent England at Under-16 and Under-17 level since joining the Gunners.

Ghanasoccernet.com broke the news on Tuesday that the enforcer has signed the papers to enable him complete a nationality switch.

He signed he papers after meeting Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi in London after the match between the Black Stars and Brazil.

Despite the revelation by the Ghana FA boss some doubted the report but the player himself has confirmed his decision.

"I have done my part for the love of the country. Now let's wait and see the outcome," Frimpong wrote.

The Ghana FA must chase Fifa, England FA and Frimpong's parents to get all the necessary documents to complete his nationality switch.

The 19-year-old was called up to Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 squad for their matches against Israel and Azerbaijan but withdrew from the party last week with a foot injury.
