Ghana captain John Mensah has explained the team's poor first half display against Congo in the Nations Cup qualifier was as a result of underrating the Red Devils which they beat 3-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday.
The Black Stars had a difficult first half before opening the scoring through Isaac Vorsah on the hour mark when the Red Devils were reduced to ten men.
A pair of goals from in-form striker Prince Tagoe and a sensational 40-yard strike from Emmanuel Agyeman Badu kept the 2010 Fifa World Cup quarter-finalists on course for an appearance in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
In between that, the Congolese pulled one back with the help from goalie Richard Kingson's howler.
The 28-year-old said: "To be very honest with you we didn't expects such a performance from Congo because after beating them 3-0 at their backyard, we knew it was going to be easy for us but they gave us a good run for our money."
"I am shocked at their output but Iââ¬â¢m excited that in the end we turn the heat on and we managed to win."
He added:"We are grateful to the Kumasi fans for the massive support that theyââ¬â¢ve given us and we love them."
