Ghana defender John Mensah could have played his last game for Sunderland as he is not available for the English side this weekend.
Centre-back John Mensah suffered a recurrence of his troublesome calf injury after just 17 minutes against Manchester United last weekend.
And he will not be ready in time to face Wolves on Sunday.
The Lyon defender's loan expires at the end of the season and the Ghanaian will return to France, leaving boss Steve Bruce with a dilemma over whether to try to bring him back to Wearside next season.
Mensah has looked a class act when he has played, but has missed more than half the season through injury and any future loan deal would have to take into account his very poor injury record.
