Keeper handed one-year violence ban

Ghanaian goalkeeper, Theophilus Jackson who plays for top flight side Eleven Wise, has been handed a one-year ban after assaulting an opponent during a league game.

The  Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association also fined the club US$3,000 after fans of the club assaulted the referee of their game with Hearts in February.

The indicent occured in February when the shot-stopper gave a severe beating to Hearts of Oak striker, Samuel Affum during their league match on February 28 in Sekondi.

"Jackson’s ban under Regulation 39(6)(c) takes immediate effect," a statement from the Ghana FA said.

This means he will play no further part in his struggling club's games for the four remaining matches of the season.

Supporters of Wise were also handed the fine as they overpowered security personnel at the game and attacked the referees.

Tension has been on the rise in the very tight league as four matches are left with many club fighting to beat the drop.

The fight at the top for the winner of the title is also intense as three clubs AshGold, Hearts of Oak and Aduana are all gunning for the trophy.
