Muntari defies Sunderland and storms Ghana training camp

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has defied Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and will join the Black Stars on Tuesday ahead of the crucial Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

His presence is a massive boost for Ghana ahead two key matches in the coming seven days.

The Sunderland manager ruled Muntari out of the key clash against Congo because of a calf injury he suffered during Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool.

But Muntari has brushed those injury concerns aside and will travel to join the Black Stars training camp in Kenya.

He will leave his home in Newscastle along with John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan on Tuesday to join their national team colleagues in Nairobi in preparation for the Congo clash.

Sources very close to the player have told GHANAsoccernet.com that he has recovered and will train fully with the Black Stars.

The Black Stars’ medical team at their training camp in Nairobi will also boost his fitness with more treatment to ensure he is fully fit for the match against Congo and friendly with England.

Sunderland boss Bruce broke the hearts of Ghanaians when he effectively ruled Muntari of the game Ghana must win to brighten chances of reaching the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

"I can't see Muntari joining up with Ghana," said Sunderland coach Steve Bruce after the match.

Muntari should be fully fit before Ghana play England at the new Wembley on 29 March.
