Ghana Under-20 assistant coach Yaw Preko has revealed top of the agenda for the team is to book a ticket for the World Youth Championship.

The Black Satellites leave for a two-week camping base in Kenya on Tuesday night ahead of the defence of the title they won in Rwanda two years ago.

Preko believes the team should first focus on progressing from the Group stage to book a place in Colombia later this year than being fixated on a title defence.

"For us it not about winning the African Youth title. That is not important at all. What we think is crucial is to qualify for the World Cup," Preko told Citi Sports.

"Qualifying for the world cup is our top main concern not and not the issue of winning the title in South Africa."

Ghana have been paired in Group B with Nigeria, Cameroon and The Gambia in the eight-team tournament which begins on 17 April.

The semi-finalists will represent the continent at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup which Ghana hold the trophy.
