Ghanaian Papa Agyemang signs for fifth-tier English side York City

Former Liberty Professionals midfielder Papa Agyemang has signed for York City in the English fifth-tier league following a period on trial at Bootham Crescent.

Agyemang, now 26, is a free agent having left Maltese side Vittoriosa Stars and having had a brief spell with Scottish Premier League side Motherwell.

He went on trial with Premier League Fulham earlier in his career, numbers Wealdstone and Braintree Town among his previous clubs and has also spent time playing in Turkey, Germany and Ghana.

He won his first caps for Ghana under-20s before making the Switch to German outfit Rot-Weiss Oberhausen.

In his next move after went on to spend a couple seasons at Braintree and his performances for the Iron attracted Turkey Super Ligue Sivasspor, who invited him to join the club on trial, but the transfer window prevented a deal from being struck.

During the 2007/08 season he return to Ghana to play at country giants Liberty Professionals to revive his career.

After that season left Ghana and arrived back in Germany for a stint with FSV Mainz 05 but was prevented from playing competitive matches by the German Football Association as he had not met the deadline for Winter transfers.
