Ghanaian players in Egypt are calling on government to be flown out of Egypt due to the political tension in the country.

More than 20 footballers who play in the Egyptian league tiers have been caught in the cross-fire.

The Egypt FA has suspended football in the country and the players want to return home immediately for the fear of their lives.

"The situation is very bad here and we want the government to come and get us out of here. What was worse is that, when the Nigerian plane came and we tried to board, we were denied," Cofie Bekoe of Petrojet told GHANAsoccernet.com

Bursts of heavy gunfire aimed at anti-government demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir [Liberation] Square, left at least five people dead and more than 800 wounded, according to reports from Egyptian television on Thursday.

"The real casualties taken to hospital were 836, of which 86 are still in hospital and there are five dead," Health Minister Ahmed Samih Farid told state television by telephone.
