Ghanaian striker Isaac Boakye joins Norwegian side Valerenga

Ghana striker Isaac Boakye has joined the Norwegian first division club Valerenga.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year contract on a free transfer.

The former AshGold striker moved to Valerenga after being without a club for four months.

His contract with Nuremberg was cancelled in December 2010 after two and a half years with the German side.

But he has revived his career with the move to Valerenga where he will wear the No. 18 jersey.

Boakye was a hugely talented player but never realised his potential because of injuries and his inability to commit himself to the Black Stars.

Despite playing 20 times for the Black Stars, he has not been part of the Ghana team since September 2005.

The then Ghana coach Claude Le Roy permanently axed the striker in 2007 for persistently turning down call-ups to the national team.

Boakye has not featured in the Black Stars squad since September 2005 after falling out with previous coach Ratomir Dujkovic.

Le Roy took over from the Serbian in September 2006 and Boakye refused to answer all three call-ups made by the Frenchman.
