Annan, who plays for giants Rosenborg, was consistently barracked by Aalesund striker Tor Hogne Aarøy during Monday night's league game which resulted in a scuffle on the blind side of the match official.

There were some exchanges which Aaroy claimed he was bitten three times by the Ghanaian but Annan insists he didn't bite the player but his shirt lodged in his mouth accidentally.

Annan, known for his cool demeanour, said the player tried to infuriate him since the start of the game but he snapped when the striker called him a "fucking African" which infuriated.

Aaroy denied making those comments saying he had lively exchanges with the player but was shocked when the Ghanaian player tried to bite his opponent into submission.

Now Norway's football chiefs are to look into the matter which has infuriated the whole of the European country after the incident was shown on television.

But if the viewing public was unimpressed with the spectacle of the game it was nothing compared to how unimpressed Aalesund-manager Kjetil Rekdal was with Annan:

“He pulled at one of our players’ undercarriage and he bit others,” Aalesund-manager Kjetil Rekdal said.

"This sounds more like the kind of treatment players get from female shop-assistants in nightclubs at the weekend than from opposing players on a matchday."

But the Alesund striker was not amused with the events. "He nibbled my chest,” a slightly embarrassed-looking Tor Hogne Aarøy confirmed.

But the unassuming Ghanaian declined to comment. “No comment,” said Anthony Annan.

Annan was voted the best player by supporters of his Norwegian club last season.
