Ghana ‘s jerseys for January's Africa Cup of Nations has been cleared in time for the tournament after government waived tax on the kits, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.Â
The Ghana government granted a request by the country’s federation to have its apparel for the locked goods at the ports, released without paying custom duty.
The Black Stars were facing an uncertainty over the apparel they will use in the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
The Ghana FA was required to pay about US$ 90,000 before taking delivery of the kits which includes the newly designed Black Stars jersey for the tournament.
But the federation complained about the lack of cash, hence their request for a government waiver on the kits.
Now the ministry of finance with the help of the country sports minister have intervened to avoid an embarrassing situation.
"The president (Kwasi Nyantakyi) held a meeting with the Sports Minister yesterday which resulted in the order by the finance minister to have the held up goods released," Vice Jordan Anagbla told MTNFootball.com.
"The President (Nyantakyi) has been directed to see a senior custom officer to work on all administrative procedure to have the kits released hopefully by the end of day."
GHANAsoccernet.com can however confirm that the Ghana FA took delivery of the consignment on Saturday thereby settling concerns raised three weeks before the start of the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana are drawn in Group D alongside Botswana, Mali and Guinea and will be based in Gabonese city of Franceville.
