Ghana's Muntari makes his Champions League history

Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari has become the fifth Ghanaian to play in the Champions League final after his Italian club Inter edged past holders Barcelona in the semi final to qualify.

He will also become the third Ghanaian to win the title if they beat Bayern Munich in next month's final to be played in Madrid.

Inter battled for more than an hour with 10 men to hold on against Barcelona on Wednesday, eliminating the holders 3-2 on aggregate to advance to next month's Champions League final.

A superb goal from stand-in striker Gerard Pique in the 84th minute gave Barca a 1-0 win on the night, but it was not enough to stop Jose Mourinho's men reaching the final.

After losing last week's semifinal first leg in Milan 3-1, Barca's hopes of meeting Bayern Munich in Madrid on May 22 were lifted when Inter defender Thiago Motta clashed with Sergio Busquets in the 28th minute and was sent off.

Muntari came on as a second-half substitute and played a role in the rigid wall mounted by master tactician Jose Mourinho to steer the club to the final.

The home fans filled the vast Nou Camp arena with noise and Barca dominated possession, but struggled to create clear chances.

Muntari will join legend Abedi Pele, Sammy Kuffuor, Ibrahim Tanko and Michael Essien as the only Ghanaians to have played in the final of the competition.

And he can actually better it by becoming the third Ghanaian to win it after Abedi Pele who won it with in 1991 with Marseille while Sammy Kuffuor win it with Bayern Munich a decade later.
