Ghana captain Stephen Appiah played for his Italian side Serie A side Bologna in their 4-0 win over lower division side Altedo Malba in a friendly on Thursday.

The midfielder is reported to have been very active in the game with his excellent 30-yard cracker saved by the keeper, Bologna’s website has also confirmed.

The influential player also set up Busch for an excellent scoring opportunity but the winger fluffed the chance.

Appiah played from the start of the second half as they thrashed the lower division side ahead of the weekend’s league matches.

Bologna were represented by two teams with the Ghana captain playing in the first team that played in the second half.

He was overly active boosting his hopes of finally making his debut for the club before the season ends.

This further underlines the fact he has regained his full fitness after a botched knee surgery and dispute with his former club Fenerbahce ruled him out action.

This is also massive boost for the midfielder and his country ahead of the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa which is just some few weeks away.

The former Juventus, Fenerbahce and Parma star was signed as a free agent by Bologna late last year.

The Ghanaian was previously released by the Turkish side in June 2008, but continued to feature for the Ghana national team.
