Gyan excited with pre-season form

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan says he is satisfied with his show on his first pre-season game for Sunderland in a 2-1 win over Scottish side Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Gyan, 25, has been afforded a longer summer break after being on international duty and looked lively in Sunderland's attack as he linked up well with Stephane Sessegnon during the 60 minutes he played at Rugby Park.

The £13m believes the game was a good work-out which would help him achieve full fitness ahead of the new season.

"It was a warm-up game and I'm happy to get the chance to play. I have been training very hard to get back to 100%. This is only my first game and I hope to keep working very hard to get my fitness up and get back to form and play well with the team," he told SAFC TV

"The team's performance was good, it was not great but there were some good signs. After all we've just had three tough games in Germany, but we played quite well. In pre-season it's not about the winning but the way the team play," he added

The striker who was rumoured be leave the Stadium of Light says he is looking forward to working with the club's new signings.

"Sometimes it can be difficult when new players arrive, but we'll work together and I'm looking forward to playing alongside them next season."
