The Portsmouth fulcrum did not did not travel with the rest of the squad as they boarded the team coach for London on Thursday to play Chelsea at Wembley.

Manager Avram Grant said: ‘It’s not looking so good for Kevin. He has not trained this week and at the moment he will not play.

‘It is just an ordinary week for Portsmouth-we have only the eight injuries!’

The 23-year-old German-born had his nationality switch ratified by Fifa early this week and was expected to battle for a major silverware although Portsmouth have been relegated.

Boateng is expected to gain full recovery before the Ghana's pre-World Cup training begins on 24 May in Paris, France.

Left-back Lenny Sowah, who is of Ghanaian descent, is struggling to be fit for the match.
