Goran Stevanovic did not apply to coach Kotoko

Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko have dispelled talks that new Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic applied for the club job two months ago.

Rumours gaining currency are that the former Partizan Belgrade boss had undue advantage was selected in exchange for a colossal amount as backhander.

It is also being speculated that the Serbian applied for the Kotoko job which could have paid US$ 5000 and was smuggled in by the Ghana FA for the lucrative Black Stars job.

But the Kumasi-based side have come out to categorically deny that.

"I can say emphatically that he didn't apply for the job. We had seven responses when the coaching job became vacant and he wasn't part,'' Kotoko Executive Director Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong told local radio station Asempa FM.

"If he had applied, I would have picked him. There were Four Serbian coaches, a German,  a Belgian and an England-born Ghanaian."

GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm that Serbian quartet Babic Branko Sosa, Slobodan Santrac, Bogdan Korak (now coach) and Velislav Ivanov Vutsov applied to coach the two-time African champions when the job became vacant following Ebo Mends' dismissal.
