Kotoko fightback to crash Wassaman on the road

Leaders Asante Kotoko rallied from a goal down to beat relegation-trapped Wassaman United 3-1 at the T&A Park in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Evans Nyarko opened the scoring for Wassaman on the 5th minute mark but Ben Acheampong restored parity for Kotoko after 33 minutes.

Enterprising midfielder Michael Anaba scored nine minutes later and Sekou Iddrisa sealed  the win at the depth to secure the points.

The match was delayed for close to 20 minutes after persistent rains continued deep into kick-off time.

Kotoko had some desperate defending to do in the opening five minutes.

Awal Mohammed and Yaw Frimpong had to be on the alert to as winger Abdul Bashiru appeared dangerous.

Kotoko continued to live under danger as Bashiru shimmed Awal Mohammed before sending a powerful drive to test Soulama Abdoulai.

The former Burkina Faso first choice goalie responded with a beautiful save in the 4th minute.

A minute later, Evans Nyarko powered in a fierce left-footed drive to beat the Kotoko defence.

Bashiru lobbed in a cross from the left, Nyarko applied a telepathic right-footed dart to push Kotoko behind.

Wassaman continued the search for the doubler as a somewhat clear penalty appeal from Yusif Abubakar's side was turned down on the 15th minute.

Bashiru hit the byline after skipping past Awal Mohammed in the 25th minute and appeared ready to score but he miscalculated his steps, he tripped and fell watching the ball to stroll over the goal-line.

Kotoko employed on a swift counter-attacking play to pulled themselves level. Amos Frimpong eluded his marker before weighing in a cross for Acheampong to head home.

The Wassaman defenders could only stand and admire the confidence with which Acheampong jumped above everybody to head the ball home.

The Porcupine spirit crept back as Anaba shot Kotoko ahead with three minutes left for play.

Baba Abdul Rahman was calm and collected for Kotoko at the left-back he curtailed barrage of attacks from Wassaman.

The travelling support of Kotoko went gay as hitman Ahmed Toure emerged out of the dugout to warm up for substitution.

Sekou Iddrisa came off the bench to seal the points for Kotoko.
