Asante Kotoko defender Baba Abdul Rahman and Fatau Safiu of International Allies will act as interim leaders of the Ghana U-20 team, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

Thirty players have been called to camp which begins on April 2 ahead of a friendly tournament in South Africa in May.

The team called by coach Orlando Wellington following recent trials will be pruned down to 23 before embarking on the trip to South Africa.

Wellington however says a definite decision over the team's captaincy will be made six weeks before its first qualifier.

"For now we have appointed Rahman and Fatau as leaders of the team," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"We want to see how they handle the role and how they interact with the other players before we take a final decision.

"That decision will be made certain I believe six weeks before our qualifier."

The Black Stars will battle the winners of the preliminary round between Mozambique and Uganda on a home and away basis in July.

Ghana became the first African side to win the U-20 World Cup in 2009 but failed miserably to defend this title after their first round elimination in the African Youth Championships last year.
