AshantiGold SC handed their new owners a perfect start when they recorded a hard fought 1-0 victory over Wa All Stars in their first premiership game of the season.

A seventeenth minute strike by striker Shafiu Mumuni handed the Miners the vital victory over the 2016 Ghana Premier League Winners.

Charles Kwablan Akonnor handed competitive debuts to new boys James Akaminko, Richard Osei Agyemang, Godfred Asiamah and Abdul Latif Anabila with starting roles.

Youngster Douglas Amaning came on as a substitute to also mark his debut.

The opposing coach Alhaji Mumuni Sokpari also gave new recruits Issahaque Zakaria, Yusif Ibrahim, Rashid Alhassan and Yakubu Mohammed their first Wa All Stars bows.

AshantiGold SC came so close to opening the scoring in the 9th minute but James Akaminko's brilliant strike from outside the box went wide.

Three minutes later, goalkeeper and captain Rashid Seidu pulled a spectacular save to deny Appiah McCarthy's free-kick from the edge of the box.

The home side finally broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Shafiu Mumuni connected home a pass from Abdul Latif Anabila following a free-kick.

The visitors began the second half on the bright with an attempt from Jeffrey Degorl just on the edge of the box which forced George Owu to make a save.

Wa All Stars nearly levelled in the 74th minute with the best chance of the game. Jeffrey Degorl rounded off goalie George Owu leaving an empty net but winger flew high his final delivery.

The Northern Blues dominated the remaining minutes of the encounter but they failed to make it count in goals.
