Mensah sure of Nations Cup win under Stevanovic

Ghana captain John Mensah is confident the Black Stars will win the Africa Cup of Nations next year under new coach Goran Stevanovic.

The Serbian boss inherits a squad packed with quality, including Mensah and fellow Sunderland stars Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari, as well as Michael Essien of Chelsea.

Fifa recently reached an agreement with the Ghana Football Association to build a new football academy, helping the country to develop the next generation of young players.

But in the immediate future Mensah believes that, under Stevanovic, his country are well placed to put in a strong performance in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Mensah said: "Now we have a new coach, he must get to know us.

“He has only had one friendly game so far but he can be sure that we will work hard as a team and help him win the tournament.

"I believe we can achieve that."

The Black Stars must first qualify for the tournament from a group comprising Swaziland, Congo and Sudan.
