Asante Kotoko lost their CAF Confederation Cup campaign at home after failing to take their chances in the first leg, according to Mohamed Ahmed Polo.

The Porcupine Warriors were booted out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 7-6 on penalties to Congolese outfit CARA Club on Wednesday, having ended both legs on 1-1 aggregate.

The MTN FA Cup holders could have made things easier for themselves in the first leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where they were awarded four penalties by Senegalese referee Issah Sy, but were able to convert only one through striker Yakubu Mohammed.

And according to the former Hearts of Oak silky midfielder, the Reds ambition of making an impact in this year's competition was effectively quenched at their home ground in the first leg after they failed to take advantage of the four penalties award to them.

“Kotoko lost their Confederations Cup campaign at home after failing to take their chances in the first league in Kumasi and I was very surprised they couldn’t win on the penalty shootout in Congo so they have themselves to blame,” he told Accra based Oman FM.

“I don’t know how prepared they were ahead of the game in Congo and for me, I think they should have learn how to take penalty kick at the end of every training session and after failing to score three penalties here in Ghana, they went to Congo and lose on penalties so it tells you something was wrong somewhere,” he added.
