Opponent watch: Algeria allow Valencia to use Feghouli beyond AFCON deadline date
Ghana's opponents Algeria have granted Spanish side Valencia the permission to play key striker Sofiane Feghouli

Ghana's opponents Algeria have granted Spanish side Valencia the permission to play key striker Sofiane Feghouli beyond the FIFA deadline for the release of players for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations next month.

This means Feghouli will be available for Valencia when they play Real Madrid in the first game of the year on 4 January.

FIFA regulations state that clubs must release their players two weeks before international tournament.

This means Valencia must release the player on 3 January as the competition in Equatorial Guinea starts on 17 January in Malabo.

However, Valencia approached the Algeria federation about using the player in the key match a day after the deadline stipulated by FIFA for the release of players for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Valencia's request to the Algerian Football Federation has yielded its fruits and the winger will be allowed to report for international duty late on 5th January, making him available for Valencia's home game against Real Madrid.

The Algerian Federation's president, Mohamed Raouraoua and the country's national coach, Christian Gorcouff agreed to Valencia's request because they are already set to lose their player for at least one month, and allowing him to join up with the squad a couple of days later will not have any adverse effects on its preparation.

Feghouli is one of Algeria's biggest stars and after reaching the last sixteen at this summer's World Cup, his country is pinning its hopes on him helping them win the African Cup of Nations for the first time since 1990.
