Ghana coach off to Qatar to see Abeyie

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac left Accra on Thursday night to watch Qatar-based midfielder Quincy Owusu-Abeyie in a Cup match ahead of the naming of his provisional World Cup squad.

The Serb, who arrived last Monday, has been discussing his choice of players with the Ghana FA before a public announcement on Tuesday.

But the Ghana FA has said on its website that the squad will be unveiled on Friday.

The former Arsenal player has not played for Ghana since featuring under Rajevac in August two years ago during the 2010 combined Nations Cup/World Cup qualifiers.

It was speculated the 24-year-old lost his national team place since then due to his tactical indiscipline.

"The coach is there to properly assess him because he went into his good books after some brilliant displays for Portsmouth and I think he wants to be really sure of his consistency. What I can't say is if the player is part of his provisional squad," A source told Ghanasoccernet.com.

Abeyie, who joined Al Sadd in March from Portsmouth, is expected to spearhead their Emir Cup semi-final match against Al Rayyan on Friday.
