''Prodigal son'' Baba Amando seeks to relaunch his career

Former Ghana striker Baba Amando has re-launched his career and stated his burning desire to return to top-tier football after two years in the ''wilderness.''

The 31-year-old has failed to live up to expectations after he was controversially being axed from Ghana's 2006 World Cup squad.

The former Asante Kotoko player later grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons by alleging to have paid bribes to a Ghana FA official for a place in the World Cup squad.

That made him unpopular in the West African country and somehow contributed to the end of his international career.

Amando, nicknamed after football legend Diego Maradona, is prepared to correct all his mistakes and move on in life.

"In the course of my career, I might have in one way or the other offended some football fans, the media, club officials and Ghanaians as a whole through my remarks or gestures,"  Amando said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Between 1998 and 2007, the hugely talented player has played for clubs in UAE, Russia and Turkey.

He wants to begin with a local top flight side next season before moving abroad.

"I take this opportunity to say I am deeply sorry and ask for forgiveness and promise it will not happen again. Please point out my mistakes and criticize me when I go wrong," he added.

"I want to prove that there is still plenty of football in me and very soon Ghana will be shocked to witness my dexterity."
