Record gate proceeds for Hearts-Kotoko match

The Ghana Premier League derby between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko grossed a record 178,520 Ghana cedis, the highest amount ever to be recored at the venue, a National Sports Council source told the Graphic Sports.

The source said the amount outstrips all revenue yielded at matches, including those involving the Black Stars; at the venue expect the 2008 Nations Cup.

But he said the 200,000 Ghana cedis grossed at the Baba Yara Stadium when two teams played in the first round of the league still stands as the highest proceeds to be realized in a football match in the country.

According to the source, 36,000 spectators watched last Sunday's game in the 40,000 capacity stadium which gave Hearts a net of 139, 346 Ghana cedis.
