Real Madrid moved above Valencia into third place in La Liga with a 3-1 win at Leganes.

Zinedine Zidane's troubles looked likely to deepen when Unai Bustinza forced the home side in front after just six minutes, throwing himself in the way of a goal-line clearance that rebounded off him and into the net.

But Madrid, without the rested Cristiano Ronaldo, were in front before the half hour was up, as first Lucas Vazquez and then Casemiro fired past Ivan Cuellar.

Madrid were comfortable throughout most of the game and rarely troubled by Leganes, in a match that was rearranged from when Zidane's side were at the Club World Cup.

Sergio Ramos put the game beyond doubt in the final moments, just beating the outstretched arm of Cuellar from the penalty spot.
