Sochaux Montbilliard goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi says the future of the Black Stars is bright despite failing to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Coach Kwesi Appiah fielded a relatively young side in their 1-1 stalemate against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the final match of the qualifiers on Sunday.

Players such as Raphael Dwamena, Ati Zigi, Edwin Gyasi, Agbenyenu Lumor, Nuhu Kassim were part of the new guard fielded by the 57-year-old trainer.

And Ati-Zigi believes the young players in the team can hold the fort as their seniors are getting to the twilight of their career.

“This is a young team and I am very hopeful we can take Ghana far, the future of the team is bright as far as I am concerned,” Zigi told Metro TV

“I believe we have what it takes to carry the team on our shoulders when our seniors are not around,”

Ghana failed to qualify for a fourth consecutive global football mundial after a disappointing qualifying campaign, where finished 3rd on the Group E standings with just seven points after six matches.
