Published on: 03 February 2016

Newcastle United have spent more than £83m since the end of last season and were the largest spending Premier League club in the January transfer window.

Steve McClaren stated his happiness with the business Newcastle have done in securing Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea, Andros Townsend from Spurs, Henri Saivet from Bordeaux and Seydou Doumbia on loan from Roma. The club also had a £21m bid for Saido Berahino rejected by West Brom.

McClaren insists more spending will be on the horizon in the future as well, he stated "We want to take this club forward, and that will only progress through investment".
