Midfielder Sulley Muntari trained with English side Sunderland for the first time on Wednesday after completing paperwork in Italy.

The Ghana international is in contention for Saturday's Premier League game at Stoke after jetting into the UK.

The 26-year-old put the finishing touches to his loan move from Internazionale on Saturday afternoon before heading back to Italy to finalise visa paperwork.

He missed Tuesday's defeat to Chelsea but trained alongside his new team-mates at the Academy of Light on Wednesday.

And he is available for selection ahead of the weekend's trip to the Britannia Stadium alongside fellow boy Stephane Sessegnon.

Muntari, a Ghana international, is back in English football for the first time since summer 2008, when he left Portsmouth for Inter in a move worth approximately £14m to the Fratton Park club.

The midfielder won a host of silverware including the Champions' League and two Serie A titles with the Nerazzuri before joining Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.
