Sunderland boss Bruce: Gyan proving money well spent

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says victory over Blackburn Rovers is proof he's spent wisely in the transfer market.

Bruce signed the Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan for the club record transfer in the summer from French side Rennes.

Goal scorers Darren Bent and Gyan cost a combined £23m while Danny Welbeck is on loan from league leaders Manchester United.

The trio have netted 24 goals between them so far this season and Bruce saw their return to scoring form as key to his team's New Years' Day victory.

"We've invested at the top end of the pitch," Bruce told safc.com.

"What happened the other day was disappointing but today all the strikers had two chances and they all took one of them.

"Asamoah in particular took his chance well considering the ones he missed against Blackpool.

"We could even have scored more but we won't be greedy. It was a great response from the disappointment of the Blackpool game."
