Team of the Week: September 16-18

Published on: 19 September 2011

Young striker Maxwell Boadu Acosty breaks into the team of the week after a stunning brace for Fiorentina's Primavera squad while Abdul Majeed Waris holds down his place in attack.

There are also places in midfield for Anthony Annan and Quincy Owusu-Abeyie who played under the watch of Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic.

GHANAsoccernet's Scouting Team has details on players picked after another weekend of football action abroad.

ADAM  KWARASEY

Stromsgodset had not won a game in their last seven games and the story was no different on Sunday.

Adam Kwarasey remained intact in his position as Stroms first choice goalie and he did creditably well pulling two world class stops in the game.

The 23-year-old's excellent anticipation and agility help Stroms to concede only two goals against a free scoring side.

RAHIM AYEW

Ayew well fits into the right-full back position.

His tackles, clearances and aerial ball ability limited the effects of the Cercle Brugge attacking lines.

He made good use of his strength.

NANA AKWASI ASARE

Nana Asare scored the consolation for FC Utrecht who lost 2-1 at home to Heracles Almelo.

The left-back has been in a classy form of his own netting trice in his last two games for Utrecht.

ISAAC VORSAH

Vorsah continues to be the most impressive Ghanaian player abroad.

The entire Hoffenheim defence is resting on his shoulders.

He bolstered the back line for Hoffenheim who move Champions League spot after hammering Wolfsburg 3-0.

JERRY VANDAM

Vandam joined Caen on loan from champions Lille in a bid to get Ligue 1 experience under his belt and the agenda is well on course.

He manned Caen's defence and was excellent in doing so as they nicked a 1-1 draw at Auxerre.

ANTHONY ANNAN

The pocket-sized midfielder makes a return to the team of the week for the first time in the season.

He lasted the entire regulation minutes for Vitesse Arnhem which blew away Roda JC 5-0.

The Schalke 04 loanee was the engine in Arnhem's midfield.

DEREK BOATENG

Boateng was the linchpin in the Dnipro team.

His cutting edge and defence splitting passes helped Juande Ramos' side to a 2-1 home win over Tavriya.

                                                                                 ISHMAEL YARTEY

The left wing-wizard provided an assist for the second goal and scored the third as FC Servette cruised to a 4-1 victory over Dudingen in the Swiss FA Cup.

Yartey has shown maturity since crossing from Benefica this summer to join on loan.

QUINCY OWUSU-ABEYIE

Quincy's surging runs and trademark antics were inspiring and breath-taking.

His speed and concentration deserves commendation.

He was a constant threat to Atromitos who were playing at home.

ABDUL MAJEED WARIS

The young striker who turns 20 today was clean and sublime.

He was named man-of-the-man after doubling the scoring and creating a penalty which was wasted by a team-mate.

Waris is a real striking gem and could be handed a trial by Ghana coach Plavi.

MAXWELL BOADU ACOSTY

Acosty earns an automatic starting spot after netting brace for Fiorentina's Primavera squad that thrush Empoli 3-0.

His ability in front of goal was too much for Empoli.

The 19-year-old has been overlooked by the Fiorentina first team coach althought he trains with the senior side and registered for the Serie A this season.
