Turkish duo in late bids for Asamoah Gyan

Sunderland are still fighting to keep hold of their star striker Asamoah Gyan after two Turkish clubs lodged late interest in the Ghana man.

Both Galatasary and Fenerbahce are hopeful of landing the former Rennes hitman, and have until midnight to do so thanks to the extended transfer window in the country.

Despite heavy investment in his side over the summer, during which strikers Connor Wickham and Nicklas Bendtner were bought in, Black Cats manager Steve Bruce is reluctant to lose a player who was one of the star turns at last summer's World Cup.

Darren Bent and Danny Welbeck have already left the Stadium of Light since Gyan joined for £13million on deadline day 2010.

Neither Turkish club are prepared to match that fee to lure him away from the club, with a loan option preferred by both parties.

Gyan was Sunderland's top scorer last season with 11 goals, but is yet to find the net in three appearances this term.
