Ghana youth international Mubarak Wakaso was refused a visa for Villarreal's pre-season tour to the Ireland.
The midfielder will stay at home with the club's reserves to keep the pace of training with the rest of the first team.
It is still unknown why the 20-year-old left-footed midfielder was denied a work visa by the Ireland Embassy.
Wakaso played a role in the Yellow Submarines' Uefa Europa League semi-final feat last season.
A similar situation happened to Ecuadorean midfielder Jefferson Montero last season when he was denied an entry visa to Poland.
