Zambia coach Renard rules out Ghana return

Herve Renard has slammed the door on a possible return to coach Ghana after leading Zambia to win the 2012 Nations Cup.

The Frenchman had his first stint with an African side as an assistant to then Black Stars coach Claude Leroy from 2006 to 2008.

The 43-year-old had always shared his fond memories during this period, giving strong indications of his desire to one day become head coach of Ghana.

But this will not happen at least in the near future as Renard despite saying good things about Ghana committed his future with the Chipolopolo.

“I made my first step in Ghana, it is a very strong team that qualified for the World Cup in 2006 and 2010,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“In 2008 Ghana was hosting the competition when I came the first time in Africa, it was amazing.

“I was not able to imagine one country able to support their team like they did because I was living in Europe and in Europe there is support of course but not like in Africa.

“In Africa, you wake up for football and you go to sleep for football. And this is why this continent is amazing for football.

“Just because I have been asked a lot of questions about that (returning to Ghana) I don’t think it will be fair to leave Zambia.

“I have to stay with them; we have to stay in family and to continue our work.”
